Comprehensive Refurbishment of a research building in Martinsried

After the last retirement of a director, the building section D on the Max Planck premises in Martinsried was completely refurbished and reconstructed for a new use.

The laboratory spaces on the ground floor and first floor were dismantled except for the building shell. In the course of the refurbishment, the building was completely reconstructed in terms of energy efficiency and fire protection.

The computer centre of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry was installed in the basement. For this purpose, the existing supply air units in the basement were combined with the exhaust air units on the roof. On the new roof, another structure was built for the plant room that was added subsequently. Moreover, a class 10,000 clean room area was installed on the first floor.

For the refurbishment in terms of energy efficiency, the sliding windows originally installed in 1970 were replaced by new window elements of the same size with triple glazing and a heat transition coefficient of 1.1. Since the appearance of the fair-faced concrete facades including the concrete balconies was to be preserved, it was decided to insulate the facades on the inside.

So today, the offices are pleasant and bright and the laboratories are equipped with the latest technology.
